What are kraft paper tubes?

Kraft paper tubes are cylinders of rolled brown kraft board with a base and a removable lid. They are taller than they are wide and are made to your product's diameter and height. Most are printed around the body, on the lid, or both.

Who uses kraft paper tubes?

Tubes are popular with small brands because they feel like a product, not just packaging. A customer picks one up, twists the lid off and keeps the empty tube for pencils or string. That second life is free advertising, and it costs you nothing beyond a clear logo on the side.

Most of our kraft tube orders come from these sellers:

  • Tea blenders and coffee roasters selling loose leaf and ground coffee in inner bags
  • Sock and underwear brands rolling a pair into a gift tube
  • Candle makers with tall pillar or jar candles
  • Bath salt, bath bomb and scrub makers
  • Gift shops packing a bottle of oil, a scarf or a set of pens

How does a kraft tube close?

Every tube has a body, a base and a lid. What changes is how the lid meets the body, and that changes the look.

Lid styleHow it worksClosed lookOur photos

Neck and lidA short inner ring stands above the body; the lid meets the body edgeOne smooth cylinderThe white-necked tubes
Inner lid plus outer lidA second lid sits inside under the main lidSame outside, extra layer insideThe tubes with silver inner lids

The neck style is the one people notice. As the lid slides down, air escapes slowly through the narrow gap, so the lid settles gently rather than dropping. A push-on lid is simpler and quicker to open.

What size kraft tube do you need?

Measure the product's widest point and its full height. For loose goods in a bag, fill the bag, flatten the top and measure that. Most orders start near one of the sizes below. Read the first two figures as the inside diameter and the last as the height, all in millimetres:

  • Small, about 50 × 50 × 100: lip balm, sample pots and trial sizes
  • Medium, about 75 × 75 × 150: a bag of loose tea or a slim candle. This is the size most first orders choose
  • Tall, about 75 × 75 × 250: a rolled pair of socks or a slim bottle
  • Wide, about 100 × 100 × 120: ground coffee or a jar of bath salts

Allow two or three millimetres on the diameter so the product slides in without catching. A tube that is too tight is hard to fill at speed. One that is too loose lets a candle knock against the wall, so a short card collar or a twist of tissue is worth adding.

Can a kraft tube be lined or have an inner lid?

Some of our photos show tubes with a silver lining and a metal-look inner lid, the kind tea and coffee sellers often ask about. Linings and inner lids are options quoted on request, not part of a standard tube.

Tell us what goes in the tube and how it is packed, for example coffee in a sealed inner bag or loose bath salts. We will say in writing what we can make for it. We never describe a tube as sealed or barrier-lined unless your quote says so.

What board are kraft tubes made from?

Tubes are made from kraft tube board, wound into a cylinder, with a disc for the base. The board is chosen for the diameter and height, because a tall narrow tube needs a firmer wall than a short wide one.

Tubes cannot be delivered flat. They arrive made up, lids on, packed upright in cartons. If storage is tight, tell us and we can split the delivery into smaller cartons that stack easily.

How do you print a logo on a paper tube?

There are three common looks. A full wrap covers the whole body in your design. A band, like the black stripe in one of our photos, wraps a single strip of colour around a plain brown tube. A label panel, like the white strips in another photo, leaves space to write or stamp a flavour.

The wrap meets itself at a seam, so the designer keeps the seam at the back and text away from it. Print the lid as well if the tubes will be seen from above on a shelf. To see how a wrap is drawn out flat before rolling, read setting up artwork on a kraft dieline.

How do you order custom kraft tubes?

  1. Take the diameter and height of the filled product.
  2. Choose a push-on lid or a neck and lid.
  3. Ask for a lining or inner lid if you need one.
  4. Send your logo and pick full wrap, band or label panel.
  5. Approve the free design proof, seam position included.
  6. The tubes are made in 4–6 business days, then sent to you.

Tubes are priced from £0.25 per unit, with each size on its own line of the written quote. Tracked delivery to any UK address is free. Expect the cartons 2–3 business days after dispatch.

Which mistakes should you avoid with tubes?

  • Measuring an empty bag instead of a filled and flattened one
  • Ordering a tight diameter that slows down filling
  • Putting a logo where the wrap seam will cut across it
  • Leaving the lid unprinted on tubes that sit below eye level
  • Assuming a lining comes as standard when it is an option

Kraft paper tubes or shipping tubes?

The two look alike but do different jobs. A paper tube with a neat lid is a retail tube, made to sit on a shelf and be opened by hand.

A posting tube is longer, plainer and built to carry rolled prints and posters through the post. For rolled artwork, long kraft posting tubes with end caps are the better fit. For short, wide products, a round box often looks more balanced than a squat tube.

How do tubes look on a shop shelf?

Tubes stand upright and take up little shelf space, so a row of six flavours fits where two boxes would. Customers read them like books, from the front, so keep the main name facing out on the side opposite the seam.

A few tubes lying on their side in front of the row makes a display feel less stiff. If you sell online, photograph the tube with its lid off and leaning against the body. It shows the neck and the inside in one shot. Brown kraft photographs well in daylight, so a window ledge often beats a light box for product shots.

Are kraft paper tubes suitable for loose tea?

Most tea sellers pack the tea in an inner bag and put the bag in the tube. Tell us how you pack it, and ask for a lining if you need one.

Do kraft tubes come with an inner lining?

Not as standard. Linings and inner lids are options quoted on request, and your written quote says exactly what is included.

What is a neck tube?

A neck tube has a short inner ring above the body. The lid slides over the ring and meets the body edge, so the closed tube looks like one smooth cylinder.

Can a paper tube hold a pair of socks?

Yes. A rolled pair of adult socks often fits a tube of about 75 mm across and 250 mm tall. Roll the pair and measure it before you order.

Can the lid and the body be different colours?

Yes. The lid and body are printed separately, so a black lid on a plain brown body is easy to do.

Do kraft tubes arrive flat?

No. Tubes are made up and packed upright with their lids already on.

Can I add a hang tag or ribbon to a tube?

Yes, after delivery. Many gift shops tie a ribbon round the lid or add a tag; the tube itself has nothing to cut through.

How tall can a kraft paper tube be?

Tubes are made to the height you need. Very tall narrow tubes need a firmer board, which we choose on your quote.

Can you print a different flavour on each tube?

Each design is quoted as its own line. Many brands print one design and add the flavour on a label panel instead.

How much do kraft paper tubes cost?

Tubes start from £0.25 per unit. Lining, inner lids and full wrap print all show as separate lines on your written quote.

Can I see my tube design before it is made?

Yes. A designer sends a free proof showing the wrap laid flat, the seam and the lid, with unlimited edits.

How long do paper tubes take?

Making them takes 4–6 business days from your proof approval. They then reach you in 2–3 business days with free tracked delivery.
