Kraft Gable Boxes Made to Your Size, Handle Built In
A gable box closes at the top into a carry handle, so the box itself does the job of a bag. We cut each one to your product in brown kraft, plain or printed with your logo.

What are kraft gable boxes?
Kraft gable boxes are brown board boxes whose two top panels rise into a peak and lock together through a die-cut handle. They carry pastries, sweets, favours and small gift sets without a separate bag. Each one arrives flat and folds up in a few seconds.
- Closure
- Two roof panels meet at the top and lock through a shared handle cut-out
- Base
- Tuck-in base for light treats; a snap-lock base on request
- Window
- Optional die-cut front window, open or with clear film
- Arrives
- Flat, side joint pre-glued, folds up at the counter
Kraft Gable Boxes Sizes
| Size | Typical inside size | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 120 × 80 × 80 mm | Sweets, favours |
| Medium | 180 × 100 × 100 mm | Cookies, pastries |
| Large | 250 × 150 × 120 mm | Meals, gift sets |
| Wide | 300 × 180 × 120 mm | Jar sets, picnics |
Sizes are typical starting points, not stock sizes. Every box is cut to the inside size you send.
What is a gable box and who orders one?
Picture a small brown house with a handle where the roof meets. The two long sides fold up, the short end flaps tuck in, and the handle holes line up so a hand can slide through both.
Cafés use them for a couple of brownies to go. Bakers send cookies home in them. Party planners fill them with favours, and gift shops use the larger sizes for a candle and a bar of soap.
It sits in our kraft food and bakery boxes range because most gable boxes end up holding something to eat.
How does the handle close the box?
Each roof panel has a matching slot near the top edge. When both panels come together, the slots line up and form one handle. Small ears on the end panels fold over and hold the peak shut.
That means no tape and no glue at the counter. Your staff fold the base, drop the item in, bring the roof together and hand it over. It takes about as long as bagging a sandwich.
- Rounded handle slot so fingers do not catch on a sharp edge
- Ears that tuck into the opposite panel to keep the roof closed
- Room on the roof for a ribbon, a swing tag or a seal sticker
- A flat front panel for your logo or a window
What size gable box do you need?
Measure what goes inside, not the box you think you want. Lay the items out the way they will sit, then measure length, width and height in millimetres. Add a few millimetres each way so nothing gets squashed when the roof closes.
The four sizes below are common starting points. Treat them as guidance and send your own numbers if your product is a different shape.
| Starting size | Inside size (mm) | Usually holds |
|---|---|---|
| Small | About 120 × 80 × 80 | Wrapped sweets, a party favour |
| Medium | About 180 × 100 × 100 | Two or three cookies, a pastry |
| Large | About 250 × 150 × 120 | A boxed lunch or a small gift set |
| Wide | About 300 × 180 × 120 | A pair of jars or a picnic treat |
The height you give us is the body height below the roof. The handle adds to it, so say if the box must fit under a counter or in a crate.
Which kraft board suits a gable box?
We cut most gable designs from brown kraft folding board. It creases cleanly along the roof lines, the handle cuts neatly, and the box folds by hand without cracking.
For a wide box carrying jars, we may suggest brown kraft corrugated instead, because the larger footprint needs a stiffer base. Prefer a pale inside? White-lined kraft is an on-request extra for gable designs.
Brown board also hides the odd scuff from a busy counter. A box that has been carried home on a bus still looks presentable when it is opened.
How does a logo print on a brown gable box?
Black ink is the classic choice. It reads clearly on brown board and suits a hand-drawn logo or a simple line illustration. A single green or deep red spot ink sits nicely too; one sample here has a green pattern running round all four sides.
Full colour works, but colours print darker on brown than on white paper, so expect warm, muted tones. If a bright colour matters, ask for white ink under it.
You can see a rough version first if you try your logo in Design Your Box, then send it with your quote request.
Should a gable box have a window?
A window on the front panel lets customers see the cupcakes or the soap before they open anything. It is a good choice for a shop counter where boxes sit stacked and ready.
You can have the window left open or backed with clear film. Film keeps crumbs and dust out; an open window is simpler and lets small air holes do their work, like the round holes in one of our sample photos.
Gable boxes for parties, weddings and Eid
Gable boxes are a favourite for events because each guest gets a neat little parcel to carry home. A small size holds a few sweets or a slice of wedding cake wrapped in paper.
For a one-off event, plain kraft with a printed sticker on the roof keeps things simple. For a regular event such as an annual school fair or an Eid open day, a printed run with the date left off lets you use the same boxes next year.
Birthday party boxes often get a name written on the front in marker. Brown board takes ink pens well, which is part of the charm.
Packing and handing over gable boxes
Boxes come flat, so a few hundred fit on one shelf. Fold a small stack before a busy service rather than one at a time with a queue waiting.
Use the handle for carrying the box to the door or the car, not for hanging it on a display hook. If the items inside might slide about, ask for a card insert that keeps them apart.
For a market stall, fold a dozen in the morning and keep them in a crate under the table. The flat ones stay clean in their carton until you need more.
Which mistakes make a gable box go wrong?
Most problems come from measuring the wrong thing or asking the box to do too much.
- Measuring the product in its wrapper on one day and without it on another
- Forgetting that a tall cake slice needs headroom under the roof
- Putting the logo where the roof folds, so it bends across the crease
- Choosing a window so large that the front panel loses its stiffness
- Leaving the inside plain when it shows every time the box is opened
How do you order printed gable boxes?
- Send the inside size, the quantity and a photo of what goes inside.
- Tell us the print: plain kraft, one colour, two colours or full colour, and whether you want a window.
- We reply with a written quote. Gable boxes are priced from £0.25 per box; your quote names the real figure once size and print are fixed.
- A designer fits your artwork to the gable dieline and emails a free proof, and changes cost nothing however many rounds it takes.
- Once you approve, production takes 4–6 business days, then tracked delivery to your UK address is free and takes 2–3 business days.
If anything arrives misprinted, the wrong size or damaged, send photos within 10 days and we reprint or refund.

Questions About Kraft Gable Boxes
Straight answers from the people who cut and print the boxes. Open any question to read the reply.
Do kraft gable boxes need glue or tape to close?
No. The roof panels lock together through the handle and the small ears tuck in. The side seam is glued at the factory, so you only fold.
Can a gable box carry a slice of cake upright?
Yes, if you give us the height of the slice plus a little headroom. Tell us it is cake so we keep the roof clear of the icing.
Can you add round air holes to a gable box?
Yes. Small die-cut holes can go on the sides or front, as in one of our photos. Tell us where you want them on the quote form.
Will the handle be printed too?
It can be. The roof panels are part of the same sheet, so artwork can run right up to the handle cut-out.
Can I tie a ribbon or swing tag to the handle?
Yes. The handle is a natural spot for a ribbon, string or a printed kraft tag, and it does not change the box design.
Is a gable box good for a party favour?
It is one of the most common uses. The small size suits sweets or a little toy, and a name sticker on the roof makes each one personal.
Can the inside of a gable box be printed?
Yes. Inside print is an option, and it shows every time the roof is opened, so a short message or pattern works well there.
Do you make gable boxes with a clear window?
Yes. The front window comes open, or with a clear film behind it. Say which on your quote request.
What base does a gable box have?
Smaller boxes usually have a tuck-in base. A snap-lock base that folds into place quickly is available on request for larger sizes.
Can I order two sizes of gable box with the same design?
Yes. We adjust the artwork to each dieline and send a separate proof for each size.
How do gable boxes arrive at my shop?
Flat and packed in cartons, with the side seam already glued. You fold each one as you need it.
Can I see my gable box design before it is printed?
Yes. Yes. A free proof of the gable layout comes first, and printing waits for your go-ahead.
