This range covers the boxes that travel. Mailers are the self-locking boxes an online shop sends to a customer, and shipping boxes are the plain brown cartons used for stock, bulk orders and bigger items.
Two styles sit in between. Clothing boxes are shallow mailers sized for folded garments, and shipping tubes carry posters, prints and drawings without a crease.
Most small shops start with plain kraft mailer boxes for everyday orders and add print once they know which size they post most.
Mailer or shipping carton: which do you need?
A mailer is built for the customer. The lid rolls over the front, the side ears tuck in and the box opens like a gift, with no tape needed to close it.
A shipping carton is built for the journey. It has four flaps top and bottom, closes with tape and suits larger, heavier or less presentable loads such as refills, stock or trade orders.
If the box is the first thing a customer sees, choose a mailer. If it goes to a warehouse or a business address, the brown kraft shipping box range is usually the better buy.
How do the five styles compare?
The sizes below are common starting points. Every box is still cut to your own inside measurements.
| Style | Best for | Closure | Usual board | A common starting size (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kraft Mailer Boxes | Online orders and gifts | Roll-over lid with tuck ears | Brown kraft corrugated | About 250 × 180 × 80 |
| Printed Kraft Mailer Boxes | Branded orders and launches | Roll-over lid with tuck ears | Brown kraft corrugated | About 250 × 180 × 80 |
| Kraft Clothing Boxes | T-shirts, shirts and knitwear | Shallow mailer lid | Brown kraft corrugated | About 280 × 220 × 50 |
| Kraft Shipping Boxes | Stock, bulk and larger items | Four flaps, taped | Brown kraft corrugated | About 350 × 250 × 250 |
| Kraft Shipping Tubes | Posters, prints and plans | End caps | Kraft tube board on request | About 450 × 75 × 75 |
Posters do not belong in a square box, so kraft shipping tubes for posters keep them rolled.
Should your mailers carry a printed logo?
Yes. A one-colour black logo on the lid is the simplest and reads clearly on brown board. White ink suits bold shapes, and full colour works when it sits on larger areas.
Printing the inside of the lid is popular with online shops. The outside stays quiet in the post, and the customer sees your message when they open it.
For a fully branded parcel, see printed kraft mailer boxes with your logo, where print covers the lid, sides or inside.
Which box suits a clothing order?
Folded clothes need width more than depth. A shallow mailer keeps a shirt flat, so it arrives without a deep crease across the middle.
Fold the garment the way you want it to arrive, wrap it in tissue if you use it and measure the folded stack. That is your inside size, plus a few millimetres.
- Accessories such as scarves or socks: a small, low mailer.
- A single T-shirt: a wide box about 50 mm deep.
- Shirts and blouses: slightly longer, with room for the collar.
- Knitwear and hoodies: deeper, as thick knits do not fold flat.
All four depths are covered by our kraft clothing boxes for garments.
How do you choose the right size for posting?
A box that is too big costs more to post and lets the item move about. One that is too tight bulges at the lid and can split along a corner.
The aim is a snug fit around the packed item, so measure it with everything that goes in the box.
- Pack the item as it will travel, with any tissue, card or insert.
- Measure the length, width and height of the packed item in millimetres.
- Add a little clearance: a few millimetres for a mailer, more for a carton with filling.
- Check the outer size against the parcel size bands you pay for.
- Send us the inside size, and we draw the box around it.
Our step-by-step guide to measuring for a kraft box has photos of each step.
What should you check before an order goes out?
- The item cannot slide from end to end when you shake the box gently.
- The lid or flaps close flat without bulging.
- Any print on the lid faces the right way when the label goes on.
- There is a clear space for the address label that does not cover your logo.

Questions About Kraft Mailer and Shipping Boxes
Straight answers from the people who cut and print the boxes. Open any question to read the reply.
What is the difference between a kraft mailer and a kraft shipping carton?
A mailer has a roll-over lid that locks without tape and opens like a gift. A shipping carton has four flaps, closes with tape and suits stock or larger items.
Can I mix mailer sizes in one quote?
Yes. Put every mailer size and count on the form and they come back on a single written quote.
Do kraft mailers need tape to close?
No. The side ears tuck into the walls and hold the lid shut. Some shops add a sticker or a strip of tape for extra security.
Which kraft box is best for posting books?
A mailer cut close to the book's size stops it sliding and protects the corners. Give us the size of the stack you usually send.
Are kraft shipping boxes printed or plain?
Both. Many are plain brown, but a one-colour logo or handling note can be printed on the sides.
Can a mailer have my logo inside only?
Yes. Inside print keeps the parcel plain in the post and puts the logo where the customer sees it on opening.
Do mailers and shipping boxes arrive flat?
Yes. Both styles are delivered flat to save space, and you fold them up as you pack.
Which box should I use for a framed print?
A shipping carton or a slim mailer sized to the frame with corner protection inside works better than a tube, which only suits unframed paper.
Can I order a mailer with a tear strip?
Yes. A tear strip is an option, so the customer opens the box by pulling a strip rather than lifting the tucked lid.
Which style in this range is slim enough for a large letter size band?
A shallow kraft mailer or clothing box is the usual choice. Tell us the outer size band you are aiming for and we will draw the box to stay inside it.
How long do mailer and shipping box orders take?
Allow 4–6 business days to make your mailers once the proof is approved, then a further 2–3 for the tracked UK delivery.
Can you make a mailer for a subscription box?
Yes. Monthly boxes are usually printed mailers with an insert, sized to the largest item you plan to send.
