What are kraft bottle and jar packs?

Kraft bottle and jar packs are brown corrugated shipping packs with an internal cradle or cell walls that keep each jar or bottle apart. They suit honey, jam, sauces, candles in glass and bottled drinks sent by post. Every pack ships flat and is folded by hand when you pack.

What makes a jar pack different from a box with dividers?

A box with loose dividers is two parts you put together. A jar pack is designed as one unit for posting: the outer, the cell walls and any cradle are cut to work together, so the jar is held from the sides and kept off the outer walls.

Our photos show three versions. A single jar sits in a fold-up cradle inside a roll-end pack. Six jars stand in a wrap-around frame with notched walls. Twelve jars sit in a grid inside a standard flapped carton.

For loose slotted grids you drop into your own cartons, see our slotted kraft box dividers instead.

Who sends glass in jar packs?

Honey producers and jam makers selling online are the biggest group. Hot sauce brands, small-batch drinks makers and candle makers who pour into glass jars all have the same worry: a parcel that rattles.

Farm shops and delis use the larger packs to send mixed hampers. Wholesalers use twelve jar packs to send stock to cafés and shops.

Subscription sellers like them too. A pack that fits this month's jar and next month's means the packing bench never has to change.

How does the single jar cradle work?

The single pack in our photo is a roll-end box with an inner panel that folds into a cradle. The cradle wraps the jar and holds it in the middle of the box, with an air gap on every side.

The jar drops in, the side flaps fold over, and the lid tucks shut. There is no loose filling to sweep up, and the customer lifts the jar straight out.

  • Jar held in the centre, clear of the outer walls
  • No loose void fill needed
  • Lid tucks in; add a strip of tape for the post
  • Room on the lid for a printed logo or a label

What size jar pack fits my jars?

Measure one jar at its widest point, usually the lid or the shoulder, and its full height with the lid on. Tell us how many go in each pack and whether bottles and jars will be mixed.

Here are common starting points. Every pack is cut to your glass, so these are only a guide.

Why corrugated kraft for glass?

Corrugated board has a fluted middle layer between two flat liners. That structure gives the walls more body and a little give, which is what you want around glass.

Brown kraft corrugated is our standard for jar packs. Other corrugated grades are available on request; we will suggest one if your jars are tall or unusually shaped. We do not promise a fixed load for any pack, so tell us what your jars are and we set the design around them.

How do you pack jars so they arrive in one piece?

  1. Check the lids are tight and, for liquids, add a seal or a band under the lid.
  2. Fold the pack and set the cell walls or cradle before you pick up any glass.
  3. Lower each jar into its cell; do not slide it across the board.
  4. Fill any empty cell with a scrunched sheet of paper so the walls stay square.
  5. Close the outer and tape along the seams, then add your label to the top.

If you send larger bottle packs often, a quick shake test before sealing shows straight away whether anything is loose.

Can jar packs be printed?

Yes. The outside takes a one-colour logo well, and a simple line such as a fragile note or a handling arrow sits naturally on brown board.

A common choice is a plain outer with a thank-you printed under the lid. It costs less than full outside print and the customer still sees it. You can preview a logo with Design Your Box, then add the file to your quote request.

Keep the print off the tape lines. A logo that disappears under parcel tape is money spent for nothing.

What mistakes happen with jar and bottle packs?

Most breakages we hear about come down to fit, not board.

  • Cells cut to the glass body while the lid sticks out, so jars stick
  • A pack built for 340 g jars used for a taller 450 g jar
  • Empty cells left open in a part-filled pack
  • Liquid bottles sent without a seal under the cap
  • Labels stuck over the seam, so the pack is hard to open

Trade orders and hampers

Twelve jar packs are a neat way to send stock to shops. The retailer opens the carton and sees a full grid of jars ready to shelve.

For hampers, ask for a mixed grid with two cell sizes. One row can take a bottle of juice and the next a jar of chutney, all in one pack. A kraft box with a carry handle suits hampers handed over in person rather than posted.

Should the pack open from the top or the end?

A top-opening carton is easiest for grids of six or twelve. The customer folds back the flaps and sees every lid at once, which makes unpacking a trade order quick.

An end-opening or roll-end pack suits one or two items. It looks tidier on a doorstep, and the cradle slides into view as the lid lifts.

Tell us how the customer will open it and we design the pack around that. It changes where the logo goes and which way up the jars travel.

How do I order kraft jar packs?

Send a jar or bottle size, the count per pack, the quantity and any print. A photo of your jar beside a ruler is very useful.

We send a written quote, priced from £0.25 per unit for simple single packs. A free proof follows with the cell layout drawn on the dieline, and our designers make any changes you ask for.

After approval we make the packs in 4–6 business days. Delivery is free, tracked, UK only and takes 2–3 business days. A jar pack with a print fault, wrong cell size or transit damage is reprinted or refunded; just email photos within 10 days of delivery.

Can I post a single jar of honey in a kraft jar pack?

Yes. The single jar pack holds one jar in a fold-up cradle in the middle of the box, away from the outer walls.

Do jar packs need bubble wrap or loose fill?

Usually not, because each jar sits in its own cell or cradle. For empty cells in a part-filled pack, a sheet of scrunched paper keeps the walls square.

Can a jar pack hold bottles and jars together?

Yes. We can cut cells of two sizes in one pack. Send the sizes of each item and how many of each.

What should I measure for a jar pack?

The widest point of the jar, which is often the lid, and the full height with the lid on. Add how many jars go in each pack.

Are the cell walls loose or fixed?

It depends on the pack. Grid packs use slotted walls that sit inside the outer, while cradle packs fold from the same sheet as the box.

Can you make a twelve jar pack for trade orders?

Yes. A twelve jar grid in a flapped carton is common for sending stock to shops and cafés.

Do jar packs arrive flat?

Yes. The outer and the cell walls arrive flat and fold up by hand when you pack.

Can I print a fragile note on a jar pack?

Yes. A one-colour fragile line or handling arrow prints clearly on brown kraft, and it can go on more than one side.

Will a jar pack fit a candle in a glass jar?

Yes. Candle jars are measured like food jars. Give us the size with the lid on, if it has one.

Can I use the same jar pack for two jar sizes?

It is better not to. A smaller jar in a larger cell can move about, so we usually cut a pack for each size.

Can you print inside the lid of a jar pack?

Yes. Inside print is an option and a good spot for a thank-you or a serving idea.

Do you supply the jars or bottles?

No. We make the packaging only. Send the size of the jars you already use and we cut the packs to them.
