Who uses kraft bakery boxes with a window?

Any baker whose cakes look as good as they taste. A window turns the box into a small display case, so a tart, a slice or a decorated cake sells from across the room.

Our customers for this box are high street bakeries, patisseries, cafés selling slices to take away, home cake makers, candy apple and treat makers, and chocolatiers. Brown kraft gives all of them a warm, baked-today look that white card does not. It also forgives a dusting of icing sugar or a buttery thumbprint on the outside, which a white box shows straight away.

Which window shape and position should you choose?

The five photos on this page show four different windows. Where the window sits depends on how the bake is seen: from above on a counter, or from the front on a shelf.

WindowWhere it sitsBest for

Flower-edged roundMiddle of a closed lidSingle pastries and small cakes
Front windowOne side panel of a tall boxCandy apples and tall treats on a shelf
WraparoundAcross the front and over onto the lidCube boxes and celebration cakes

A shaped edge, such as the scallops in our photos, makes the window part of the design. It costs nothing extra in print because the die-cut does the work.

How does a lock-corner bakery box fold?

Most of these boxes fold from one flat piece. You lift the four walls, the corner flaps tuck inside and lock against each other, and the base is complete with no glue or tape.

The lid hinges from the rear panel. It folds down over the bake and its front flap tucks inside, with side flaps that close in first. Staff can fold one in a few seconds once they have done a dozen, which matters in a Saturday queue. Many shops fold a stack before opening and keep the rest flat under the counter for the afternoon.

What size bakery box do you need?

Measure the bake on whatever it sits on, such as a cake board or a paper doily, because that is the real footprint. Then measure the height to the tallest decoration. Typical inside sizes, length by width by height in millimetres:

  • Pastry, about 100 × 100 × 70: a single pastry, doughnut or brownie
  • Slice, about 150 × 150 × 100: a slice of cake or a small tart
  • Cake, about 250 × 250 × 130: a small celebration cake on its board
  • Tall, about 120 × 120 × 180: a candy apple, cake pop bunch or tall treat

Leave a few millimetres around a cake board so it lifts out with fingers either side. For cupcakes that need a holed insert, look at our kraft cupcake boxes with card inserts instead.

How do tall boxes hold a candy apple?

One of our photos shows a tall bakery box with a front window and a small hole in the top panel. The candy apple stands on its base with the stick rising through the hole, so it cannot tip or touch the walls.

The same idea works for cake pops in a cluster or a tall meringue. Tell us the stick diameter and the height to the top of the treat, and we place the hole in the centre of the lid. If you sell two sizes of apple, ask for the box to fit the larger one and use a paper collar to steady the smaller.

Which board suits a bakery box?

We make these boxes from brown kraft folding board. It is light, folds crisply at the corners and holds a sharp window edge. For a larger cake, tell us what it weighs on its board and we will suggest the right board on your quote.

Behind a pale bake, white-lined kraft (available on request) gives a brighter backdrop. Most bakers stand cakes on a cake board or a paper doily, and pastries in a paper case, so the bake rests on that rather than on the box.

How should you print a kraft bakery box?

Our cube box photo shows how far one ink can go: a line illustration printed in a single dark colour, wrapping round the base of the window. It looks hand-drawn and costs less than full colour. If you can sketch, your own pen drawing scanned at a good size often prints better than a stock graphic.

A logo on the lid, your opening hours on a side panel and a short line inside the lid are a good start. Seasonal designs for Easter, Mother's Day or Valentine's Day can run as separate short orders on the same box. For shallow chocolate boxes with a shaped window, our kraft sweet boxes for chocolates and fudge may suit better.

How do you order bakery boxes with a window?

  1. Measure the bake on its board, and its height to the top decoration.
  2. Choose the window shape and where it sits.
  3. Ask for a stick hole if you sell candy apples or cake pops.
  4. Pick plain kraft or a print, and send your logo or drawing.
  5. Approve the free proof of the flat box with the window marked.
  6. Production then runs for 4–6 business days.

Prices for bakery window boxes begin at £0.25 per box, set out in a written quote. Flat bundles go out tracked, free to any UK address, and land in 2–3 business days.

What mistakes do bakers make with window boxes?

  • Measuring the cake but not the board it sits on
  • A lid window so large the lid bows onto the decoration
  • Boxing warm bakes before they have cooled
  • A stick hole that is too tight for a thick candy apple stick
  • Printing opening hours that change before the boxes run out

The proof is the time to fix all of these. Lay a real bake on the printed dieline and check the window frames it the way you want.

Open window or clear film on a bakery box?

Clear film keeps fingers and dust off the bake, and the box looks finished when it sits in a display. Most bakeries choose film for anything sold from an open counter.

An open window is lighter and looks more rustic. It suits bakes that go straight into a customer's hands and are eaten the same day. Both are made from the same flat box, so you can order some of each on one quote and see which sells better. Whichever you pick, keep a band of board around the opening so the lid stays flat when it is closed.

Questions About Kraft Bakery Boxes with Window

Straight answers from the people who cut and print the boxes. Open any question to read the reply.

Your question is not here?Ask on WhatsApp+44 7578 382054
Can a bakery box window have scalloped edges?

Yes. Scalloped, wavy and flower-shaped edges all die-cut cleanly in kraft board, as our photos show.

Do kraft bakery boxes need glue to assemble?

No. Lock-corner bakery boxes fold up from one flat piece and the corners hold each other in place.

Can you add a hole for a candy apple stick?

Yes. Tell us the stick diameter and we cut a hole in the centre of the top panel so the apple stands upright.

Will a whole cake fit in a kraft window box?

Yes, for small cakes. A box about 250 × 250 × 130 mm is a common start for a cake on its board. Bigger cakes are made to your size.

Can the window be on the front instead of the lid?

Yes. Front windows suit tall boxes that sit on a shelf, and wraparound windows run from the front onto the lid.

Can I order bakery boxes with no window?

Yes. Any window can be left off, and a plain lid gives more room for your logo.

Can you print a drawing on a bakery box?

Yes. Send a line drawing and it prints in one colour like any logo. The proof shows where it wraps around the window.

Do bakery boxes with a window come flat?

Yes. They arrive flat in bundles and fold up by hand when you need them.

Can I put a warm pastry in a kraft bakery box?

Let bakes cool first. Warm bakes in a closed box can soften and stick, especially under a filmed window.

How much do bakery boxes with a window cost?

From £0.25 per box. The written quote shows the price for your size, window, film and print.

Can I order a seasonal design on the same box?

Yes. A second design on the same box size is quoted as its own line and gets its own proof.

What if my bakery boxes arrive misprinted?

Send photos within 10 days. We reprint or refund boxes that are misprinted, the wrong size or damaged. The reprint and refund policy explains how it works.
